This one started with a beautiful vintage Kantha textile from Bangladesh… and then became a one-of-a-kind KOME jacket in my North Vancouver studio.
I love working with fabric that already has a history. The layers, the hand stitching, the little irregularities, the unexpected combinations of colour — they are all part of what makes Kantha so special.
Then I cut, shape and create each garment individually, allowing the textile itself to help decide what the finished piece will become.
There is only ONE.
No factory.
No production run.
No second one waiting in the back room.
Just a wonderful old textile given another life as wearable art.
