This might surprise you… but not all Kantha is the same.

I just finished this one, and the moment I picked up the fabric I knew it was special. It is much thicker and more substantial than the Kantha I usually work with — beautifully soft, heavily stitched, full of texture, and yes… considerably more expensive for me to buy. But it is fabulous.

The pink alone makes me happy, but then there are all those wonderful little patches, the hand stitching, the history in the cloth, and the feeling that this jacket has already lived a life before becoming something completely new.

As always, I made only one.

Wear it over black, throw it on and go, and suddenly you look interesting without trying too hard. That is exactly what I love about KOME.

Made by me in North Vancouver from vintage repurposed Kantha cotton — old saris layered and stitched by women artisans in Bangladesh, then transformed again in my studio into wearable art.

One only. Once it’s gone… that’s the end of its story.

Available online now, and if it doesn’t find its person first, it will soon be heading to @NicheArtGallery on Granville Island.
